on why you would want to use a battery module. For owners of newer
Sony MD recorders that do not have mic input sensitivity switches,
a portable microphone preamplifier found here
would be a better solution.

Built-in level controls
The level control option is mounted completely inside
the Metal or Slimline battery modules. It is most useful with MiniDisc
recorders that don't allow adjustment of recording levels while
recording (most SONY MD recorders).
This optional feature provides two individually adjustable slider
controls that adjust the output of the microphones before going
to the recorder. The user simply sets the record level ONCE on the
recorder at (or near) full gain and adjusts the recording levels
with the built in output level controls at any time during the recording.
The actual recording level is still read on the recorder's level
meters.
Features:
- Controls are mounted inside Metal or Slimline battery modules-no
increase in size!
- Recommended for use with Sony MiniDisc recorders, camcorders and
other recorders that can't adjust recording levels on the fly (while
recording).
- Utilizes high quality Alps slider controls

Battery Module
General Information:
The Metal
and Slimline battery modules utilize a standard 9 volt battery
(included) which will last approximately 300 to 500 hours, depending
on the microphone used with them.
Aside from their physical size and case material, there is no difference
between the different versions of the Metal and Slimline battery
modules. The same high quality components are used in their construction.
The standard output connectors of the battery modules are right
angle stereo mini plugs.
For those recorders that do not allow the user to change recording
levels while recording, such as the SONY MiniDisc portable recorders,
or where it is desired to be able to adjust each channel's recording
level independently, we offer optional microphone
output level controls.
This option is available on many of our battery modules (see details
above). This feature provides two individually adjustable slider
controls that adjust the output of the microphones before going
to the recorder. The user simply sets the record level ONCE on the
recorder at (or near) full gain and adjusts the recording levels
with the built in microphone output level controls at any time during
the recording. The actual recording level is still read on the recorder's
level meters.
The controls (one for each channel) are high quality "Alps" slider
controls, similar to what you might see on a small studio mixer
or graphic equalizer. See picture section at top of page for photos.
Adding the level control option does not increase the size of the
module.
